Embarking on humanitarian trips offers a unique and fulfilling way to give back to communities in need, and my recent journey to Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos was an unforgettable experience.

In just 4 days, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand how small acts of kindness can make a profound difference. It was a whirlwind aptly named the “Hurricane Missions Trip.”

From providing shoes and school supplies to children in Laos to supporting orphanages in Myanmar, these trips can leave a lasting impact.

If you’re looking to make a meaningful difference and explore these incredible countries, read on for all the details of my journey.

Getting to Thailand

Our adventure began in Chiang Rai, Thailand, where we landed after a budget-friendly flight with Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Air Asia offers a reliable service with surprisingly delicious food! For those seeking extra comfort, a business class upgrade with a flatbed can be yours for around $400 on this eight-hour flight.

Introduction to Asian Mission Outreach

Asian Mission Outreach, holds a special place in our hearts. We had the honor of hosting the mission’s founders, Bishops Ariel and Paz Acuna, in Roswell, Georgia, and came to deeply appreciate the impactful work they accomplish throughout Asia.

Their base in Thailand supports schools in Laos, orphanages in Myanmar, and several community outreaches across Thailand.

If you’re looking for humanitarian trips for adults that create meaningful change, this mission is an incredible opportunity.

From supporting education to providing essential resources for vulnerable communities, their work is a beacon of hope in the region.

Our Stay

Our stay at Le Meridien Chiang Rai was a retreat amidst the busy itinerary.

The hotel featured dreamy, spacious rooms, incredible buffets throughout the day, and top-notch customer service.

Using my Marriott Bonvoy Points, we secured two nights at this beautiful property, which provided the perfect setting to recharge after our daily activities.

Crossing borders by car or truck has always been a favorite part of my travels. From Chiang Rai, we drove about an hour to Chiang Khong, which borders Laos.

The outreach to over 100 children at a school in Laos was particularly moving. With the help of supporters, we raised $1,000 to provide these children with new shoes and school supplies.

Despite rough roads delaying our arrival, the children were eagerly waiting for us. Witnessing their joy and gratitude was a powerful reminder of the universal language of love—something I likened to electricity, connecting and empowering everyone it touches.

Visiting the Orphanage in Myanmar

This orphanage, which we’ve now visited three times, remains one of the most impactful stops on our humanitarian mission trips.

The children, many of whom were child soldiers during the war, have endured unimaginable trauma.

During this visit, we provided them with backpacks, blankets, and mattresses—essential items for their bunk beds, which often lack even the most basic comforts.

Sharing a special meal of chicken and rice with them was another highlight, as it’s considered a rare treat.

Additionally, we’ve sent funds for winter clothing, ensuring their comfort through the colder months. These children hold a unique and cherished place in our hearts.
